Herbal & Nutritional Medicine
Supporting your body's natural healing and recovery
Chinese Herbal Medicine & Nutritional Support
Chinese herbal medicine and targeted nutritional support can be an incredibly valuable part of a treatment plan.
While acupuncture works by stimulating the body's own regulatory systems, herbs and nutritional medicines provide ongoing therapeutic support between appointments. For some people, acupuncture alone is enough. For others, carefully selected herbal or nutritional medicines can help accelerate progress or provide additional support between treatments.
I prescribe these only when I believe they will add significant value to your treatment and progress.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine has been used for thousands of years and remains one of the world's oldest continually practised systems of medicine. Today, modern research is helping us better understand the complex chemistry of many traditional herbs and formulas by identifying their active compounds and investigating how they influence the body's physiology.
Rather than prescribing a single herb for a diagnosis, formulas are traditionally selected according to each person's unique pattern of imbalance.
In modern practice, I use high-quality concentrated granule formulas that are easy to take and can be tailored to your individual presentation. Depending on your needs, this may involve a traditional formula, a modified version of a classical prescription, or a custom combination designed specifically for you.
Please note: I condone the practice of harming animals to extract ‘herbal’ medicine substances. I prescribe only plant-based herbal medicines and do not use ingredients derived from endangered species or animal products.
That said and onto the benefits -
Chinese herbal medicine may be considered alongside acupuncture for a wide range of health concerns, including:
Women's health and hormonal balance
Fertility and IVF support
Pregnancy support (where appropriate)
Menopause
Digestive disorders
Fatigue and burnout
Stress and anxiety
Sleep disturbances
Immune support
Chronic pain and inflammatory conditions
Recovery following illness or medical treatment
Every prescription is individualised and reviewed regularly as your health changes.
Nutritional & Functional Medicine Support
My approach also incorporates evidence-informed nutritional medicine where appropriate.
Sometimes the missing piece is correcting a nutritional deficiency, improving mitochondrial function, supporting the microbiome, reducing inflammation, or helping regulate the stress response.
Where appropriate, I may recommend therapeutic grade nutritional supplements which may include activated bioavailable forms of vitamins, minerals and amino acids to complement your treatment plan. These are selected according to your individual needs, current medications, pathology results (where available), and treatment goals.
I regularly work with nutritional support for areas such as:
Energy production and fatigue
Gut health and digestion
Immune function
Nervous system support
Sleep
Healthy ageing
Women's health
Bone health
Recovery from illness or cancer treatment
Cardiovascular support
Recommendations are always individualised.
An Integrative Approach
Every person is different, so every treatment plan is different.
For some people, acupuncture is all that's needed. For others, Chinese herbal medicine, targeted supplements or other hands-on therapies may provide the additional support needed to optimise results.
Whatever combination is recommended, the aim is always to provide thoughtful, individualised care using the therapies most likely to support your health and recovery.
Not every patient will need Chinese herbal medicine or nutritional supplements. If I recommend them, it's because I believe they are likely to make a meaningful difference to your treatment outcomes and support your progress.
Safety, Quality & Individualised Care
I prescribe only therapeutic quality herbal and nutritional medicines from reputable manufacturers that meet Australian quality and regulatory standards.
Every recommendation takes into account your current medications, medical history, allergies, pathology (where relevant), and any known herb–drug or nutrient–drug interactions. Patient safety is always my highest priority, and every prescription is selected specifically for your individual circumstances.
