Fertility & Pregnancy

Fertility treatment

Fertility is rarely explained by a single factor.

Hormones, ovulation, egg quality, sperm health, sleep, stress, digestion, circulation, nutrition, nervous system regulation and fluid balance all play a role in fertile health picture.

My role is to help identify what may be contributing to your current situation through the lens of Chinese medicine, informed by careful discussion, observation and hands-on assessment. This may include assessing patterns in the body such as muscular tension, abdominal restriction, lymphatic congestion, fluid balance and nervous system load, as well as interpreting blood tests, scans and the effect of lifestyle factors.

Treatment is tailored to each person and may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional support, craniosacral therapy and manual lymphatic drainage where appropriate.

I frequently work alongside fertility specialists, IVF clinics, GPs and other healthcare providers, and welcome a collaborative approach to patient care.

Trying to conceive can be exciting, frustrating, hopeful, disappointing and exhausting—often all in the same month.

Acupuncture, herbal and nutritional medicine offer a holistic and practical approach to fertility optimisation, whether used alone or alongside conventional fertility care.

Fertility Through the Lens of
Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine views fertility as a reflection of the body's overall health, resilience and ability to direct resources towards reproduction.

Rather than focusing solely on hormones or reproductive organs, the view of Chinese Medicine is to consider how effectively energy is being produced, distributed and utilised throughout the body.

A key part of treatment is identifying restrictions and bottlenecks that may be limiting the body's ability to allocate sufficient energy and resources towards conception and a healthy pregnancy. These restrictions may be physical, physiological or functional in nature, can present differently from person to person and can be addressed using acupuncture, herbal and functional medicine.

The aim is to optimise the conditions that support reproductive health, improve communication and coordination between the body's systems, and create the best possible environment for conception and pregnancy.

Fertility Through the Lens of Functional Medicine

Blood tests can provide valuable insight into the nutritional and metabolic factors that influence reproductive health when viewed through a functional lens.

I review blood test results through a functional medicine lens, looking not only at whether markers fall within the standard reference range, but at how they fit together and where there may be potential bottlenecks to optimal function.

Where appropriate, I integrate targeted nutritional supplementation into a broader holistic treatment plan. This also means finding practical solutions when supplements themselves create challenges — such as constipation with iron, difficulty swallowing large tablets, and supplement overwhelm or confusion. I help you understand, prioritise and choose what will realistically work best for you.

If you are already under the care of a functional medicine doctor or naturopath, I am very happy to leave this aspect of your care with them and focus on acupuncture and complementary treatment.

Acupuncture for Pregnancy

Acupuncture offers a gentle way to support both physical and emotional wellbeing throughout pregnancy.

Pregnancy places extraordinary and constantly changing demands on the body from the earliest weeks through to preparation for birth.

Treatment is always adapted to the stage of pregnancy and what is happening for you at the time. It may be used to help manage common pregnancy symptoms, support relaxation and nervous system regulation, address pain and physical discomfort, and later to help prepare the body for labour.

Acupuncture has a long history of use during pregnancy and modern research supports its safety when appropriately administered by a qualified practitioner. I have extensive experience treating women throughout pregnancy and work alongside your existing midwifery, obstetric and medical care.
